Cristina Escobar

Broadcast Journalist
Millions of Cubans each day watch Cristina Escobar report the day's event on one of Cuba's largest television stations. Cristina is one of the most visible figures on Cuban television, and over the past two years she has dedicated much of her coverage to the renewal of U.S.-Cuba relations. In May 2015, while in Washington at a White House press briefing, she fired off a four-part question with a two-part follow-up on whether Obama planned to visit Havana before his term ends. As told by the Pulitzer Center, "No one in Washington remembered the last time that a Cuban journalist had asked a question, let alone six, at a White House briefing." A graduate of the University of Havana with a B.A. in Journalism, Cristina anchored and produced the first talk show about problems of Cuban journalism, which won a top award from Women's Editorial for shows on issues faced by women in journalism.
